About Carters Lake
Located at the southern end of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Carters Lake is one of the most scenic lakes near Calhoun in Northwest Georgia. Known for its sparkling water, rugged shoreline, and 62 miles of undeveloped coast, this lake is also home to the highest earth-filled dam east of the Mississippi River.
The recreation area includes a full-service marina, campgrounds, boat ramps, a swimming beach, picnic areas, playgrounds, a nature trail, and a visitors center with a small museum. It’s an easy pick for a day of boating, fishing, hiking, bird watching, hunting, or a lakeside picnic. This lake is pet-friendly, and leashed pets are welcome.
